Our Challenges

Fire, Flood, War and Pestilence:
These are the forces that have shaped who and what we are today.
Fires and floods are fairly regular visitors and we accept them as a matter of course. Major wars are somewhat less frequent, thankfully.
Major outbreaks of pestilence are even less frequent so several generations may never have to be exposed to one. That's were history becomes useful:
Look at what happened in Athens in 430 BC:
"The catastrophe was so overwhelming that men, not knowing what would happen next to them, became indifferent to every rule of religion or law.”
